Always check for blown fuses before a circuit diagnostic procedure. The models from 1994 to 1998 feature both high and low-speed cooling fan relays. However, from 1999 onwards, there is only one cooling fan relay that the PCM controls. Condensers mounted alongside the engine cooling fan for 1994 to 1998 models and 3.0L V6 models with A/C. From 1999 onward, 2.4L SOHC models with AIC controller have single cooling fan and module. If the fan motor does not operate, replace it. Unplug the fan motor electrical connector if the engine overheats, and the cooling fan will not operate, connect the fan motor electrical connector direct to battery using fused jumper wires. In the case of air conditioned models, also check the condenser fan motor if the radiator fan motor checks out. If the motor for the radiator fan is functional yet doesn't turn on as the engine heats up, the fan relay has likely failed. The best way to check the control circuits is at a repair shop. Find the fan relays in the engine compartment fuse/relay box and carry out a relay test. If the relay is working properly, have a look at the wiring and any connections to the fan motor. If everything appears to be OK, then the fault lies with the engine coolant temperature sensor or the PCM. However, this will require a diagnosis. In order to replace the fan motor connect the negative battery terminal and in 1999 models and later remove the fresh air intake duct. Unplug the electrical connector of the fan motor, then lift the vehicle on jackstands and drain the cooling system (reusing the coolant if it is good). Using the pliers if the seal is stuck, loosen the hose clamp and detach the upper radiator hose. If any oil cooler lines or brackets inhibit the removal of the shroud, disconnect them. Also disconnect the wire harness from the shroud and remove the mounting bolts. Lift the fan motor and shroud out as one unit. Take out the screws that secure the fan's mount, then pull off the fan blade from the motor after taking off the retaining nut or clip, and finally, take out the motor from the shroud. Reinstallation is done in reverse order of removal. The rubber air shields around the shroud should be in position for cooling system operation. At last fill the cooling system.
