    Unplug the electrical connector from the sending unit and use a 12-volt test light connected to a good ground to probe the electrical connector on the harness side while an assistant turns the ignition key to the On position without cranking the engine. If the gauge is functioning properly, the test light will illuminate and the gauge needle will deflect. If the test light does not illuminate, the sending unit is faulty. If the test light comes on but the gauge needle does not move, the gauge is faulty. If neither the test light nor the needle moves, the issue lies in the wiring harness.
