Mitsubishi Galant Brake Pads

Friction is created when the Brake Pads of the Mitsubishi Galant are compressed via their friction lining against the brake rotor to slow down or stop the car. The pads consist of a friction compound that is molded and bonded or riveted to a sturdy metal backing plate, a combination chosen by Mitsubishi for predictable braking in the normal driving of the Galant. As a result of the lining being worn down by use, the thickness decreases, so Brake Pads must be replaced when they reach the minimum specified level for the Galant. Many of the models have electronic wear sensors or built-in indicators that warn the driver with a dash alert or scraping noise. The original equipment formulation is intended for the average driver driving in normal conditions. Applied by Mitsubishi, it provides excellent performance during commuting, relaxed cruising, and other everyday errands. However, extended high speeds, aggressive cornering, towing, or hauling create extreme heat. This makes the Galant pads tend to overheat and fade. The result is increased stopping distance. Heat is created when the Brake Pads create friction while changing a vehicle's momentum into heat energy, so excessive heavy braking may cause them to exceed their intended temperature. In order for the Mitsubishi system to continue to operate smoothly, it needs to be checked regularly. It is also advisable to replace your Brake Pads frequently to achieve that consistent pedal feel, controlled deceleration, and safety on the road.

Mitsubishi Galant Brake Pads Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace brake pads and ensure proper brake operation on Mitsubishi Galant?
    A:
Start by opening the top of the brake fluid reservoir and take out the fluid, approximately two-thirds, then put the cap back on. Use a suction gun or an old poultry baster and in case there is a baster used it should not be used again in food preparation. Care should be observed against spilling brake fluid; it can destroy paint, and any spills must be washed off with clean cold water. Then loosen the lug nuts on the wheels, elevate the vehicle safely using jackstands, and block the remaining wheels on the ground. Take off the wheels and, with an assembled brake as a guide, as necessary, work on one brake at a time. Place a drain pan below the brake assembly and spray the caliper and area around it with brake system cleaner. Push the piston with a C-clamp back into its bore, being careful not to overflow the level of the fluid in the master cylinder; siphon excess fluid off as needed. To renew the brake pads, follow the illustrations given, checking that the caliper is not leaking, and the piston dust boot is not ruptured and replace the caliper as necessary. Thoroughly examine the brake disc and hoses and repair them where necessary. Wipe the caliper guide pin boots and examine them against corrosion, replacing them in case of a serious damage. In case the guide pin and lock pin had been taken off, place them in their respective places based on the markings on the pins and caliper body, and then screw them in by applying the prescribed torque. Do the same on the other wheel and replace the wheels and lug nuts, and lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the required torque. Pour in the correct amount of brake fluid until it reaches capacity, press the brake pedal a few times to ensure that the pads are in contact with the disc, and check the brake fluid level, adding more as necessary. Lastly, test the functionality of the brakes thoroughly before restoring the vehicle to usual service and do not apply the brakes heavily until the pads have been lightly applied a few times to ensure that they have been seated.
