- Q:What is the function of the Mass Air Flow Sensor and how does it operate in an engine on 1993 Mitsubishi Diamante?A:MAF sensor measures intake air mass to injector timing on a heated platinum hot-wire (approximately 200 degrees C above ambient) and a cold-wire to ambient temperature. PCM supplies power/reference; current equals power to sustain hot-wire temperature (more airflow means more cooling, and more current). Test connector voltages with ignition ON. Unscrew: unscrew negative battery, unscrew clips, unscrew hoses, take off, reconnect reverse.
