To take out the components, first disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal, followed by raising and securing the vehicle on jackstands. After that, remove the
Oil Pan and pick-up tube/ strainer assembly and then the
Timing Belt and crank sprockets and tensioner assembly. In the absence of this tool, strike the face of the plug with a hammer to loosen it, and then use a pair of pliers to remove it. Take the bolt off that is on the side of the block. Insert a Phillips screwdriver or small punch to keep the balance shaft from turning. Next, remove the bolt that holds the oil pump driven gear to the balance shaft. Using a soft-faced hammer, remove the bolts of the oil pump/front case and separate from the engine. Make sure to label bolts for installation. Then remove the mounting screws on the back of the oil pump/front cover and remove the cover. Be careful, the tolerances are critical and affect oil pressure. Solvent-clean all components. Inspect for chips, score marks or overheating. Replace gears if necessary. Inspect the front case housing for wear and replace the oil pump/front cover if necessary. Dismantle the pressure relief valve, and examine the surface for piston sliding and the valve spring to replace as a set when damaged. Use a coat of oil on the parts before replacing and place the grooved end of the relief valve first. The oil pump outer gear and inner gear are to be installed at this stage ensuring that both the marks are aligned so that no engine vibration occurs. Check the side clearance of the rotors and if necessary replace any of the parts. The pump casing should be filled with petroleum jelly and the casing should be fitted and bolted to the proper torque. Install the pressure regulator valve components. Tighten the plug tightly and install the pump cover and tighten the fasteners. Fit the front case with a new gasket lubricated with RTV sealant, install bolts in correct position, and tighten to torque specification. Reverse-install the rest of the components, fill oil, oil filter change, run engine, check oil pressure, and look for leaks.
