To install the rocker arms, reverse the removal procedure and put them in their respective original locations. For a 2.4L SOHC engine, remove the valve cover and label the rocker arm shafts as intake and exhaust. Gradually loosen each bolt of the rocker arm shaft to relieve spring pressure and lift these assemblies off without mixing up parts. Disassemble all the rocker arm shaft parts marking them all for easy reassembly. Check for wear on the rocker arms and shafts, replacing if damaged. Before installation, each lash adjuster must be oiled. Remove the valve cover(s) and mark each rocker arm and shaft in its proper position, not to mix up their respective places or will wear prematurely. Gradually loosen the rocker arm shaft bolts until they can be handled by hand and leave them in place to prevent disassembly during removal. Each Valve Lifter must be fitted with a special hydraulic actuator holder in order to avoid dropping into the engine. Alternatively, use vinyl tape. Remove the rocker arms and shaft assemblies from the cylinder head and place them aside, keeping the parts organized. Using your eyes look at the rocker arms for excessive wear or damage. Check each Valve Lifter for wear on the contact surface with the valve tip. If the Valve Lifter are blocked or you suspect they're faulty, replace the rocker arm/Valve Lifter assembly. Check all components of the rocker arm shaft for cracks or excessive wear, replacing as necessary. Prior to fitting the unit check that the Valve Lifters are partially filled with engine oil and if necessary pump plunger to remove excessive travel. Position the camshaft lobes down and away from each other to make installation easier. The rocker arms and shaft springs should be replaced in their original locations. Then fit the rocker shaft clips. Place the rocker arm assemblies with the notches in the correct position. Tighten the bolts in the order specified in three stages to the specified torque. Reverse the removal steps to finish installing, then check for leaks and functioning of oil by running the engine. Following the replacement of the rocker arm/Valve Lifter, noise can be detected. The noise is caused by air in the system. A quick rev will help bleed the system. Start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. Gradually increase the speed from idle to 3000 and back to idle. If you make several attempts and the adjusters stay noisy replace the assembly.
