To remove the components of the 2.4L DOHC engine, start with the taking off of the valve cover and then both camshafts. Once the camshafts are removed, lift off the rocker arms, making sure to mark each individual rocker or store them in a container to maintain the original position. You can leave the lash adjusters in the head unless replacing them. Examine the rocker arm tips, rollers, and lash adjuster pockets for damages and replace worn parts. Each lash adjuster should be checked for wear, particularly the ball tip. It should be replaced if in doubt or if valve tapping is heard. To install the rocker arms, reverse the removal procedure and put them in their respective original locations. For a 2.4L SOHC engine, remove the valve cover and label the rocker arm shafts as intake and exhaust. Gradually loosen each bolt of the rocker arm shaft to relieve spring pressure and lift these assemblies off without mixing up parts. Disassemble all the rocker arm shaft parts marking them all for easy reassembly. Check for wear on the rocker arms and shafts, replacing if damaged. Before installation, each lash adjuster must be oiled. Then reassemble all the parts back to where they were taken noting in particular the orientation of the plastic spacer on the intake rocker arm shaft. Fit the rocker arm assemblies ensuring the notches face outward. Tighten the bolts in sequence to the specified torque. Put the motorcycle back together in the reverse order to dismantling, and run the engine to check for oil leaks.
