Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Filter

Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Filter acts as a filter for gasoline or diesel before it reaches the engine. Dirt, rust, paint chips, and water can enter fuel from storage tanks or the vehicle's own tank. In the Mitsubishi fuel system, this component prevents abrasive particles from damaging injectors and pumps, as well as sludge or debris that can restrict fuel flow, rough idle, hesitation, or stalls. The Fuel Filter holds these contaminants that can impede steady delivery for a Lancer engine. The component typically comprises a pleated, porous filter medium that is housed in a cartridge positioned in the fuel line, allowing clean fuel to flow while blocking unwanted matter. The in-tank strainer built-in at the first stage intercepts larger particles. The Fuel Filter provides the finer second stage of protection against clogging and reliable combustion. Water collected through the filter is of particular importance for diesel operation since water can displace the lubricating properties of the diesel fuel and promote corrosion and microbial growth that forms sludge. Maintaining a clear filter eases the load on the fuel pump, which maintains the correct pressure to the injectors or carburetor for a smooth flow of fuel and allows steady acceleration. Changing the Fuel Filter as per Mitsubishi Lancer's recommendations only helps keep the engine functioning well, prevents damage to components due to contaminated fuel, and provides outsized benefits to every Mitsubishi Lancer on the road.

Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to renew the fuel filter for 1.5 Litre and 1.8 Litre engines on Mitsubishi Lancer?
    A:
Start by removing the inlet duct from the throttle body to the air cleaner. On the 1.8 litre, remember to disconnect the wiring to the air flow meter. Decrease the fuel system pressure as instructed in the appropriate section. Position a vessel underneath the fuel filter. To avoid spilling fuel, open the fuel filler cap to depressurise the fuel tank. Leave the cap loose while disconnecting the hoses of the fuel filter. Employing two spanners, separate the steel fuel pipe from the union, using one spanner to hold the union on the filter and the other to hold the flare nut on the steel pipe. A pipe spanner can help avoid rounding the corners of the nut. Take out the banjo bolt and washers from the top of the filter, discarding the washers and taking out the bolt retaining the filter to the bracket to withdraw the filter from the vehicle. To install, insert a new filter with the arrow facing towards the engine end fuel pipe, connect the flare nut to the union, and hand-tighten it (make sure the thread catches), and then tighten securely with two spanners. Reinstall the banjo bolt at the top of the fuel filter with fresh copper washers and tighten it up. The 1.8 litre models air flow meter electrical connection must be refitted to the inlet duct. Fit fuel fillercap. Ensure there is no external leakage from the fuel system. Leave fuel system button ON and start the Engine (it will take a little while for the engine to run as the pressure builds). Further check inlet duct for any air leak. The fuel filter for the 2.0 Litre and 2.4 Litre engines is contained within the fuel gauge/pump sender unit in the fuel tank.
