Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Pump

Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Pump helps in transferring gas from the car's tank to the fuel delivery system of the engine for combustion to take place. Fuel injected models usually have an electric Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Pump located in the tank, which is integrated with the sending unit that provides level signal to the dash gauge. The Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Pump uses its internal motor to push pressurized fuel forward through the lines to the injectors. On carbureted Mitsubishi Lancer versions, a mechanical Fuel Pump is mounted on the engine and operated by a lever that rides on an eccentric segment of the camshaft, which draws fuel from the tank and feeds it into the carburetor's float bowl at the lower pressure suited for that system. While the electrical design functions on constant voltage, the mechanical design works when the camshaft rotates. That way, both designs deliver fuel according to engine demand. When the engine cranks but does not start, checking that the pump is running and that the correct voltage is reaching its terminals will help confirm. Frequent testing of fuel system pressure or volume could confirm that the single pump in use is maintaining sufficient flow for reliable operation of your Mitsubishi Lancer.

Mitsubishi Lancer Fuel Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to test and replace the fuel pump on Mitsubishi Lancer?
    A:
In order to carry out a test, you have to find the two retention clips which are located in front of the rear seat cushion. Next, you need to pull each retention clip towards the front side of the vehicle. Finally, lift the cushion towards the upper side in order to withdraw it. To access the fuel pump wiring connector, fold the carpet forward on the right-hand side and disconnect the fuel pump wiring. Using a jumper lead, apply battery voltage to the black/blue wire of the fuel pump wiring connector on 1.5 and 1.8 litre models, or the red wire on 2.0 and 2.4 litre models, and check fuel pump operation by its sound; on 1.5, 1.8 and 2.0 litre models also feel for a slight vibration at fuel return line. In case the pump doesn't run, check the power supply and earth circuits at the pump wiring connector. To remove and install a fuel pump on a CE series-model, it will the Fuel Tank must be removed. On CG and CH models, the fuel pump can be removed with the tank installed with some wiggling of the fuel pump assembly. Drain the Fuel Tank First, remove the sealing by separating the cover plate and the pump. Next, remove the nuts and remove the pump from the fuel tank. If the fuel pump must be disconnected from the cover plate, for CE series models, this is accomplished by removing the screw retaining the pump, disconnecting the wiring, sliding the supply hose clamp off, and removing the strainer. For CG and CH series models, free the clip to disconnect the fuel pump bracket, lower the assembly to free the wiring connector and remove grommet and cap from the top of the fuel pump. Remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator from the base of the filter housing, if necessary. Inspect all components for weakening and replace if required, especially the strainer. The procedure of Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Ensure correct assembly of the pump for CE series by placing the strainer first, connecting the pump to the supply hose and wiring. In the event of renewal, the elements of CG and CH series models must be assembled into new filter housing. New O ring and Grommet must be applied with Clean Fuel and ensure the fuel pump cap is clipped into position. Reattach the wiring connector and earth wiring. Install the cushion between the fuel pump bracket and the fuel pump. Ensure that the fuel pump bracket supports the pressure regulator and fuel pump. Insert the fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank with the help of a new gasket. Position it as marked before removal. Fix the cover plate in position by tightening the retaining nuts evenly and firmly. If you undid the fuel tank, reinstall it now.
