To remove and install Cordia, Tredia, Galant and Starion components, first detach the transaxle or transmission and clutch, then the flywheel or driveplate and adapter plate. Following, remove and take away lower bell housing cover from the rear of the engine and take out the rear plate from upper rear block. In the case of the Crankshaft Seal, detach the gasket from the bottom with a sharp object, and if damaged, replace the oil pan gasket after removing the oil pan. Disconnect the bolts securing the Crankshaft Seal case and pull it off the crankshaft that will pop out. Remove the case gasket. Remove seal retainer or oil separator. Pull seal out and check the sealing surface on the crankshaft for grooves. If present replace the crankshaft. Apply lubrication to the sealing surface, and use a seal installer to mount the new seal with the flat side out. First, the retainer should be placed over the seal. Next, a new gasket should be installed. Third, the seal case can be attached to the block. Furthermore, pan bolts can be retorqued and if required, the oil pan can be refilled. To complete the job, replace the rear plate and bell housing cover, then the flywheel (or drive plate) and transaxle in that order. The process starts the same for Mirage with the transaxle and clutch being removed, along with the flywheel or driveplate and adapter plate. Take off the rear plate from the back and remove the oil pan gasket from the rear Crankshaft Seal case, draining the oil pan if necessary. Remove the seal case of the oil and take off the seal. During this, check the sealing surface crankshaft for damage. Utilize a specific tool to insert a new seal into the case squarely with a bottom-out feature. Before installing the seal, gasket, and seal case, lubricant the seal surfaces and apply liquid sealer as needed. Replace the oil pan with a new gasket if necessary or retorque the bolts followed by reinstalling the transaxle and refilling the engine oil pan with clean oil if necessary.
