Installation and removal of the rear halfshaft To install and remove the halfshaft, disconnect the negative battery cable and securely lift the vehicle first. Then loosen the bolts that connect the rear halfshaft to the companion flange, then with a prybar, loosen the inner shaft of the differential case, taking care not to spoil the seal. Then, take out the rear driveshaft of the car and, when necessary, prying a flat lipped prying tool, remove the rear differential oil seal very carefully. To install, insert a new oil seal in the rear differential housing with the correct size driver, change the circlip and install the rear driveshaft to the differential case, making sure that it clips. Lastly, screw the companion flange bolts and clamp them to 40-47 ft. lbs. (55-65 Nm), and check the fluid level in the rear differential.
