- Q: How to remove and install engine mountings on Mitsubishi Lancer?A:To remove and install engine mountings, ensure that oil-soaked mountings are renewed and the source of the oil leak is fixed for the longevity of the new mounting. For the right-hand engine mounting, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands, then support the engine under the sump with a floor jack and a piece of timber. Remove the retaining bolt from the power steering hose bracket if applicable, and for 1.5 and 1.8 litre models, take out the through bolt from the right side engine mounting, moving the air conditioning receiver slightly if necessary. For 2.0 and 2.4 litre models, detach the earth cable and the nut retaining the mounting to the bracket, then remove the nuts and bolt holding the right-hand side engine mounting to the support bracket and maneuver it out. If needed, remove the support bracket by taking out the timing belt, power steering pump, and the retaining nut and bolts. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the arrows on the rubber pads point towards the right side of the vehicle. For the left-hand engine mounting, the front and rear mountings and centre member must be removed to lower the mounting enough to detach it from the transaxle. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely, then support the transaxle with a floor jack and timber block. Remove the air inlet hose, airflow sensor, and air cleaner assembly, then detach the nuts and washers from the front and rear engine mountings, withdrawing the through bolts while noting their positions. Remove the retaining bolts and the centre member, loosen the transaxle mounting nuts, and withdraw the through bolt. Carefully lower the floor jack to create enough clearance to remove the mounting. For installation, ensure the arrows on the rubber pads for 1.5 and 1.8 litre models point downwards, and for 2.0 litre models, the arrow on the stopper points up. Place the mounting onto the studs and loosely install the retaining nuts, then raise the transaxle and install the through bolt and nut, followed by the centre member and the front and rear engine mounting through bolts, washers, and nuts, tightening them to the specified torque. For front and rear mountings, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely, then support the transaxle with a floor jack and timber block. Remove the through bolts from the mountings, detach the retaining bolts from the front and rear mountings, and withdraw them from the centre member. If necessary, remove the bolts retaining the centre member and take it out of the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that all retaining nuts and bolts are tightened to the specified torque.
