Your car's engine mounts do not usually need any work done, but if they are broken or are deteriorating, they should be replaced. The reason is that this part can inflict damage or wear-and-tear on other driveline components. To inspect the mounts, lift the engine to relieve weight from them. First, raise the vehicle and support it with jackstands. Then, put a jack under the engine
Oil Pan with a large block of wood to prevent damage. Lift the engine a bit to unload the mounts and examine them for any cracks, hardened rubber, or separation from the metal backing. Splits can occur down the centre, so take note of this when evaluating the mounts. Using a large screwdriver or pry bar, check for any relative movement between the mount plates and engine or frame. If movement is detected, lower engine and tighten mount fasteners. The deterioration can slow down by applying rubber preservative. To replace the cable, first disconnect it from the battery's negative terminal. Raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands, if you haven't already. Place a floor jack under the engine with a wood block to remove some weight from the mounts. Then unfasten them and separate the mount from the engine and frame. Do not disconnect more than one mount at a time unless you are removing the engine. Reinstallation is to be done in reverse order of removal with thread-locking compound on the mount bolts and tightening firmly.
