Do not rotate the camshaft(s) or crankshaft when the
Timing Belt is removed or damage to the engine may occur. Install the engine in TDC cylinder no.1 and take off the timing belt cover and timing belt. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise until the crankshaft sprocket apears three notches BTDC, to avoid damaging the engine, in case the camshaft sprocket is accidentally turned during installation. Hold the camshaft sprocket immobile with a pin spanner or using a large screwdriver and passing it through one of the holes on the sprocket then loosen the camshaft sprocket bolt. Lever the sprocket(s) off of the camshaft with two large screwdrivers. With a rear timing belt cover, remove the top. Record the distance that the seal is seated in the bore, and then use a small screwdriver to carefully remove it without scratching or damaging the camshaft or seal bore. Wipe the bore and grease the outside of the new seal with either engine oil or multi-purpose grease and grease the seal lip. Installation of a new seal is done by tapping the new seal a few times with a seal driver or socket with an outside diameter slightly less than the outside diameter of the seal, so that the spring side of the seal fits into the seal with a gentle tap, making sure that the seal is squarely seated and pressed in to the same depth as the old one. Install upper part in case the engine is of rear timing belt cover. Install the cam sprocker gear with the Woodruff key on the camshaft fitting in the slot of the sprocker gear of SOHC engines or dowel pin of the camshaft fitting in the same slot of the sprocker gear of the DOHC engines and screw the bolt with a suitable tool. Install the timing belt again, and start the engine, paying attention to oil leakage at the camshaft seal.
