Before removing the ignition switch, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Afterwards, remove the under cover on the driver's side and the cover on the steering column. Disconnect the electrical connector located at the ignition switch and remove the key lock cylinder. For models equipped with a key reminder switch, detach the switch and proceed to separate the assembly from the ignition switch and lock cylinder. If anti-theft equipment (like an anti-theft system) is present, disconnect the key ring antenna and remove the immobilizer ECU harness below dash. At last, the retaining screws may be removed, and the switch taken off the steering column. To reinstall, follow the reverse removal procedure. The switch and lock cylinder must be placed in the ACC position before tightening the switch mounting screws. To remove the lock cylinder, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal again then remove the driver's under cover and steering column covers. Place ignition key in the switch to the ACC position and depress the retaining tab with a thin tool to withdraw the lock cylinder from housing. To install, put the ignition switch slot in the ACC position. Now insert the lock cylinder until the retaining tab locates the housing, checking that the key works. Finish causing the installation by following the uninstallation steps again; for anti-theft models, if changing the immobilizer ECU, put a new immobilizer serial number identification sticker on the glove box panel.
