The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is in the transaxle and generates a pulsing voltage signal when the vehicle is moving, which is sent to the PCM to get the vehicle speed. In the 1999 and subsequent models with automatic transaxle, the PCM has two sensors; one is the input shaft VSS and the other is the output shaft VSS that the PCM uses to measure the slippage of the torque converter clutch by comparing the two. To fit an alternative to the VSS, make sure that the ignition key is turned to the OFF position, unplug the electrical connector of the VSS, unscrew the hold-down bolt, and remove the VSS of the transaxle. The O-ring on the VSS should be replaced and the installation is the opposite of the removal.
