Mitsubishi Lancer Fan Motor

The cooling fan is operated by the Mitsubishi Lancer Fan Motor which ensures that the engine temperature in the vehicle is kept at a constant temperature. The second Mitsubishi Lancer Fan Motor is an electric drive unit which converts electrical energy to rotational kinetic motion which in effect rotates fan blades located by the radiator. As the engine is running, the heat of the fluid, which passes through the radiator, is expelled. The spinning blades of the Mitsubishi Lancer Fan Motor are applied to pull air over radiator fins to allow this transfer of heat. Take away this continuous current of air and the radiator would be pushed to the wall to get rid of enough heat. As such, the temperature of the engine could easily rise beyond the optimal level. By ensuring that fan blades remain in operation whenever cooling demand is present, the component directly prevents overheating caused by low-speed driving, idling, or high ambient temperature. The whole assembly is applied in conjunction with the radiator, coolant, hoses, and thermostat. However, that does not mean that the assembly does not have a specific job. On the contrary, the assembly's job is just to supply power to the fan consistently. The design allows the electric unit to be integrally connected to the fan assembly and packaged to deliver steady airflow and cooling performance. A fourth Mitsubishi Lancer Fan Motor is a vital component for effective temperature control and optimum comfort during driving.

Mitsubishi Lancer Fan Motor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to test the Fan Motor in the cooling fan system on Mitsubishi Lancer?
    A:
To test cooling fan system in a vehicle, first ensure that the engine is cold and where necessary off the air conditioning is off before disconnection of the coolant temperature sensor wiring. The cooling fan and (where fitted) air conditioning condenser fan should run when operating properly. When the cooling fan(s) are rotated on and the coolant temperature sensor is attached, examine the sensor. Do not keep the coolant temperature sensor disconnected too long so that the engine ECU will diagnose an error. When the Check Engine Warning Lamp is still on after the test, clear the fault codes. When the cooling fan fails to start when the coolant temperature sensor wiring is disconnected, disconnect the cooling fan motor wiring and make sure that there is battery power on the connector terminals with a voltmeter. In case of lack of power, then check the fusible link and the relay and replace an already known good relay where necessary. When both can be serviced and power outages persist, inspect the wiring, and repair where necessary. When the wiring is not cut, but there is no power at the fan connector, there might be a issue with the engine ECU. To test the fan motor, just simply connect to the battery using jumper leads; in case it is not working replace the fan motor. To remove and install the cooling fan motor, loosen the negative battery terminal, empty the cooling system and disconnect the upper radiator hose and the overflow hose. Un hook the fan motor wiring, take out the upper bolts that hold the fan assembly and then the fan assembly should be removed out of the vehicle with a lot of care to avoid damaging the radiator core. When the clips and screws have been removed, remove the fan motor and the fan off the shroud by withdrawing the fan off the motor shaft. Installation is also to be done in reverse sequence such that the drain pipe on the fan motor must be downwards facing, the fan blades must not touch the shroud and all connections are to be done securely. Lastly, fill up the cooling system and check the cooling fan functionality and then road test the vehicle.
