How to remove and install rear Parking Brake Cable(s) and the handbrake lever on Mitsubishi Lancer?

To unfasten and fit the rear Parking Brake Cables, the rear doors should be opened and one of the seat cushion retaining clips should be located. Then pull the retaining clip towards the front of the vehicle and lift the seat cushion upwards. Repeat this on the other side and maneuver the cushion from the vehicle. Untie the centre console, and then with the handbrake fully released, loosen the Parking Brake Cable adjusting nut and permit disconnection of the rear Parking Brake Cables from the equaliser. To access the area in front of the back seat where the Parking Brake Cables go through the car floor, the carpet has to be folded back. On sedans, you may have to remove the scuff plates to fold the carpet back enough. To install wiring for your air compressor and grommets, push the cables through any pre-drilled holes or create your own in the vehicle floor. Next, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Then remove the rear wheels. Take out the bolts attaching the Parking Brake Cable support brackets torqr the underbody and trailing arm, disconnect the cable from the handbrake lever, then remove the brake shoes. Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, carefully detach the C clip securing the Parking Brake Cable to the backing plate and remove the cable from the vehicle. Make sure that Parking Brake Cables aren't damaged, frayed or kinked ensuring that the inner cable slides smoothly and check the ratchet and pawl on the handbrake lever for damage and correct operation renewing it if necessary. To install the cable through the backing plate, secure it in place with the C clip, install the brake shoes and rear hub, ensure the cable grommets are in good condition and sealing properly, position and secure all cable support brackets, tighten the retaining bolts securely, and adjust the handbrake. To remove and install the hand brake lever, remove the centre console. Loosen and remove the adjusting nut for the Parking Brake Cable. Disconnect the wiring for the hand brake warning lamp switch. Remove the retaining bolts of the hand brake lever and withdraw it lever assembly from the vehicle, separating the front cable from the equaliser if necessary. Inspect the handbrake lever ratchet and pawl for any damage and ensure they operate correctly, replacing any defective components. When installing, lubricate all contact surfaces and pivot points with multipurpose grease. Tighten the handbrake lever retaining bolts, connect the warning lamp switch wiring, and adjust the handbrake.
