- Q: How to remove and reinstall the oil pump assembly in the V6 engine on Mitsubishi Galant?A:To remove the oil pump assembly, we must first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Remove the drivebelts, timing belt, crankshaft sprocket, and Woodruff key, and then the oil pan. Remove the air conditioning compressor bracket from the engine if fitted. Remove engine mounting bolts and detach oil pump assembly. If the oil pump assembly does not come off easily, tap on it very gently with a soft-faced hammer. Take out the oil filter passage O-ring seals, which may attach to the engine block or linger in the oil pump housing, and throw them away. Remove the oil pump rotor cover.
