In order to remove and install the distributor cap, the retaining screws should first be loosened. To take your rotor off the distributor shaft, just pull it straight off. Start with removing the battery's negative wire. Depending on why you remove the cap, it can be useful to keep the
Spark Plug Wires attached to it for testing purposes or access to other components (if the length of the wire allows you to reposition it). Next, mark the spark plug wires and take them off the cap. Now, remove the screws or clips that hold the cap down. Prior to removing the rotor from the shaft, take notice of the fitted position. Similarly, installation follows the reverse order of removal. To view, remove the cap and rotor from the distributor. wash all parts with soap and water. Dry with compressed air or a clean lint-free cloth. After cleaning, look for cracks, carbon tracks, burn marks or other damage, and check the centre button of the cap, then check the terminals for dirt or corrosion. Check the rotor blade and spring for damage; replace any damaged components as required.
